The client was a group of entrepreneurs who had extensive experience working within the pharmaceutical sales industry. They were looking for a designer who could develop a concept for a Ventolin inhaler carry case. Asthma was and still is one of the most chronic conditions of the time but it can be easily treated with inhalers. The client believed that the inhaler manufacturers had not considered the patients need to keep the inhaler with them at all time and they had omitted simple features such as a belt clip fitting and failed to consider how a user feels about being associated with their medication.
The brief was to replace the cap of a standard ventolin inhaler with a 'docking station' incorporating a belt clip. I prepared several concepts and developed one to full working prototypes. The prototypes were made using pigmented vacuum cast polyurethane resin in silicone tooling from a rapid prototype master. Component designs were adjusted and issued as CAD data.
