The client is a world leader in the field of automated traffic data collection. The brief was to design a vandal resistant, pole mounting bracket for a Roadside Classifier product which had been developed and was housed in a proprietary waterproof 'briefcase'. A major consideration when designing equipment for use at the roadside is understanding the inherent risks to personnel from traffic and installation methods. The project was split into two stages. The first stage was to design and prototype a bracket with an adjustable angle which was used on several site surveys to establish the optimum angle relative to the installation height. Once this was defined the second stage was to design the bracket so the operator could quickly reconfigure the apparatus to 'look' up or down the cariageway. The bracket was designed to be installed in the quickest possible time with out tools or ladders and this significantly reduces the risks to personnel and keeps their time on site to a minimum.

The design was developed from sketches into 3D CAD. The parts were manufactured from CAD data and control drawings.
