The client was a high street name for the rental of domestic Brown and White Goods with more 500 shops in prime locations across the UK. In recent years domestic electronics have became more reliable and affordable but at that time the rental market had been a significant part of the high street for many years. It was not uncommon for people to rent a video camera for a special occassion. The client had a significant end of rental life income disposing of ex-hire goods via specialist clearance houses. The client had identified a substantial increase in profit if the condition of its rental video cameras could be maintained as high as possible. The brief was to undertake a feasibility study and propose designs for a low cost, stylish, robust protective 'glove' to attach to the clients current range of compact video cameras.
A sketchbook of concepts was prepared and then shorlisted to four which were visualised by hand using traditional marker techniques.
