The client was another design consultant. They had limited capacity in their own modelshop and wanted a batch of fifty electronic handset enclosures for an interactive television game they had designed for their own client. No solid model CAD data was available and the models were built from 2D drawings.
The task involved manufacturing a set of masters which were used to cast off several sets of silicone tools. The parts were vacuum cast in pigmented polyurethane resin, cleaned of flash and vents and fitted with brass inserts, screws and silicone elastomer keypads. The parts were fully interchangeable and pigmentation and tolerances had to be very closely controlled.
